Travel advice for East Midlands Railway customers
Travel advice for East Midlands Railway customers
Last updated: Wednesday 29 July, 18.00
East Midlands Railway is currently operating a reduced Intercity timetable to and from London St Pancras. Industrial action is also scheduled to take place at EMR on Saturday 1 August.
Customers affected by EMR cancellations can use their tickets on alternative EMR services or claim a refund if they no longer wish to travel.
To further support EMR customers at this time, tickets for cancelled EMR Intercity services can also be used on LNER trains from either Doncaster or Grantham to London King’s Cross, in both directions. This includes customers with tickets dated Saturday 1 August. Please note that on strike dates, EMR are advising that only essential journeys are made.
For EMR Intercity customers booked to start their journey in Sheffield, tickets will be accepted on Northern and TransPennine Express services to Doncaster if your booked EMR service is cancelled. Customers can then use their EMR ticket on LNER services to London King’s Cross.
Travelling with LNER:
LNER trains are expected to be busy over the summer period. To locate available seating, LNER is advising EMR customers to use the seat reservation display screens inside the train. Seats with a green light marked “Available” are unreserved. Please note, it is possible for LNER customers to book unreserved seats after a train has departed from its origin station. If this occurs, you may be required to find an alternative available seat.
During busy periods, EMR customers may be advised by LNER colleagues to travel on a later, quieter service for a more comfortable journey.
For the latest advice and updates from EMR regarding their timetable and forthcoming industrial action, please visit their website here.
High temperatures forecast – important travel advice
High temperatures forecast – important travel advice
Last updated - Sunday 2 August - 16.15
We are expecting high temperatures across parts of our route, particularly in the south from tomorrow Monday 3 August. There are currently no planned cancellations affecting LNER services, however, if you are travelling over this period, for a safe and comfortable journey we recommend:
Carrying water with you. You can also find water refill points at most of our stations.
Waiting for your train in the shade or a station waiting room.
Speaking to staff before you board the train if you feel unwell.
Lowering your window blind onboard the train. This helps to reduce the temperature inside the coach.
Checking your full journey before you travel.
Due to the heat, some operators will be running reduced services. Please note that if you miss your LNER train because of a delayed or cancelled connection provided by another operator, your ticket is automatically valid on the next available LNER service. You can make a new seat reservation here.
We will continue to update this page should new information become available. However, we recommend checking your full journey before you travel, including any connections with other operators.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Long-stay car park closure at York
Long-stay car park closure at York
Major upgrade work as part of the York Station Gateway project means that the long-stay car park is closed until further notice. This is to allow for construction of a new multi-storey car park. Parking for blue badge holders is available in the short-stay car park.
Please allow extra time to reach the station and make alternative arrangements if you are arriving by car.
For other car park locations in the city centre, visit: York.gov.uk/CarParks.
