Changes to train times

Find out if engineering work or timetable alterations will impact your travel plans

Engineering work

Engineering work is an essential part of maintaining and upgrading our rail network. Here you'll find all the planned engineering work scheduled to impact LNER services over the next 12 weeks.

Sometimes we may need to make additional short notice changes and recommend you still check your journey as close as possible to your date of travel.

If we do change things after you have bought a ticket, you can either use any reasonable alternative LNER service, or claim a full refund.

Significant upcoming works

Planned weekend engineering between Newcastle and Edinburgh from Saturday 19 September to Sunday 4 October

Major planned upgrade works are taking place between Newcastle and Edinburgh over three consecutive weekends. Works are happening on the following dates:

  • Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September

  • Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September

  • Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October

On the affected weekends, LNER will operate an approximately hourly service to and from Scotland diverted via Carlisle, extending journey times by up to two hours.

Rail replacement coaches will be in place for customers travelling to and from Morpeth, Alnmouth, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Reston and Dunbar. For details of the rail locations at each station, please use see here.

We recommend planning ahead and allowing extra time if you are travelling over this period.
