High temperatures forecast – important travel advice
High temperatures forecast – important travel advice
Last updated - Wednesday 15 July, 22.31
We are currently experiencing high temperatures across parts of our route, particularly in the south. There are currently no planned cancellations affecting LNER services, however, if you are travelling over this period, for a safe and comfortable journey we recommend:
Carrying water with you. You can also find water refill points at most of our stations.
Waiting for your train in the shade or a station waiting room.
Speaking to staff before you board the train if you feel unwell.
Lowering your window blind onboard the train. This helps to reduce the temperature inside the coach.
Checking your full journey before you travel. Due to the heat, some operators will be running reduced services. Please note that if you miss your LNER train because of a delayed or cancelled connection provided by another operator, your ticket is automatically valid on the next available LNER service. You can make a new seat reservation here.
Additional train formation information
Due to the forecasted high temperatures, some of our InterCity 225 trains have been temporarily removed from service. This means that some services will now be operated using Azuma trains and the original seat reservations will not be in place. Please take any available seat in your original class of accommodation.
Services changed to 5 car Azuma trains from InterCity 225 trains on Thursday 16 July:
05.00 Leeds to London Kings Cross
08.10 London Kings Cross to Leeds
11.40 Leeds to London Kings Cross
14.33 London Kings Cross to Newcastle
18.27 Newcastle to London Kings Cross
23.08 London Kings Cross to York
We will continue to update this page should new information become available. However, we recommend checking your full journey before you travel, including any connections with other operators.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Long-stay car park closure at York
Long-stay car park closure at York
Major upgrade work as part of the York Station Gateway project means that the long-stay car park is closed until further notice. This is to allow for construction of a new multi-storey car park. Parking for blue badge holders is available in the short-stay car park.
Please allow extra time to reach the station and make alternative arrangements if you are arriving by car.
For other car park locations in the city centre, visit: York.gov.uk/CarParks.
Disrupted journey?
We're here to help if you are affected by delays or cancellations.
Cancelled train?
Cancelled trainIf your LNER train is cancelled, here are your options. Most of the time, you won't need to buy a new ticket or get a refund.
Delay Repay
Delay RepayIf your train was delayed by more than 30 minutes, you may be eligible for compensation that's different to a refund. For example, if you completed your journey, but it was delayed, you would get Delay Repay.
Seat Guarantee
Seat guaranteeIf your reserved seat was not available, and you were unable to find another onboard, you may be eligible for compensation under our Seat Guarantee scheme.
Request a refund
RefundsIf you bought your ticket with LNER or at an LNER-managed station, you can request a refund for cancelled trains if you chose not to travel. If your plans changed but your train is still running, not all tickets are refundable, so we'll help you understand what you can do.
