Christmas is coming!

Get the merry most out of your festive journeys with us

Tickets for the festive period are now on sale up to 4 January. Find out more about travelling with LNER at this magical time of the year – and don't forget you can even travel on Christmas Eve.

Tickets and reservations

Our trains are extremely busy over Christmas, so we definitely recommend that you book in advance and reserve a seat.

LNER Advance tickets come with a compulsory seat reservation, but flexible tickets like Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak and Anytime tickets don’t. The good news is that it’s completely free to reserve a seat.  Just remember to request one when you buy your ticket to ensure you don't end up standing or on a later train, this Christmas.

Please note that train tickets for travel on 1 January 2019 are not yet on sale.

The Foodbar will be open on most services throughout the festive season too offering a range of drinks, snacks and hot and cold food.

Luggage

What with all those presents and novelty jumpers, it’s hard to travel light at Christmas – but please only bring what you can carry.  Our staff will be on hand to assist but luggage space on our trains will be more in demand than usual.

We aim to provide all necessary assistance to people with disabilities. You can make arrangements in advance for help with your luggage.  Simply call 03457 22 53 33** by 18.00 the day before you travel and we’ll do everything we can to arrange this.

Luggage check-in for travel between London King’s Cross and Edinburgh Waverley

Between Saturday 15 December 2018 and Saturday 5 January 2019, we’ll be operating luggage check-in on our services between London King’s Cross and Edinburgh Waverley.

At Edinburgh Waverley, a check-in desk will be located on the platform the train departs from.

At London King’s Cross, our staff will be available to check in your luggage at the departure platform.

Your luggage will be tagged and you’ll be provided with a receipt to show upon arrival at your destination where you’ll be reunited with your luggage.

The check-in services will be open approximately 30 minutes before the train departs and close approximately 10 minutes before departure, so be sure to arrive with plenty of time to check in and hop on.

For more check-in info, please view our luggage policy.

Please note, the luggage check-in service will not operate on New Year’s Day.
