If you're a golf fan, you'll know driving isn't always the best option. That's especially true with how to get to The Old Course at St Andrews. With 290,000 fans expected to attend over the four days, we recommend planning your journey ahead of time.

How to get to The Old Course at St Andrews

The Old Course at St Andrews is one of the oldest golf clubs in the world and is members only. From Sunday 10 to Sunday 17 July 2022, it will host The 150th Open Championship.

The closest East Coast Main Line station to St Andrews is Leuchars which is served by LNER.

Bus from Leuchars Train Station

Approximately 6-10 minutes

There are two regular buses from Leuchars Train Station that stop close to The Old Course at St Andrews.

Please note that the buses are expected to be extra busy getting to and from St Andrews so you may need to wait for the next service. Please factor this in for travelling back to the train station to ensure you arrive in good time for your return train journey.

The bus to Murray Park takes approximately 6-minutes and stops 0.3 miles from the golf course and is an approximately 6-minute walk.

The bus to Grannie Clark's Wynd takes approximately 10-minutes and stops 0.2 miles from the golf course and is an approximately 4-minute walk.

Taxi to St Andrews from Leuchars Train Station

Approximately 11 minutes

From Leuchars Train Station, a taxi is approximately 5 miles and takes around 11-minutes depending on traffic.

10 to 17 July 2022 The 150th Open Championship

The Old Course at St Andrews is hosting The 150th Open Championship from Sunday 10 July to Sunday 17 July 2022. This year will be the largest in the championship’s history, with a record-breaking 290,000 fans expected to attend over the seven days of practice and play.

The nearest train station to St Andrews is Leuchars Station. In response to demand and in addition to our normal timetabled services, LNER will be running an extra four services each way between Edinburgh and Dundee, stopping at Leuchars, to help thousands of attendees to travel to and from Leuchars Station for the event. These will be run across the busiest days from Wednesday 12 July to Sunday 17 July. Tickets for these will be on sale soon.

We recommend that you plan ahead and only travel if you have a ticket for travel and a seat reservation. If your ticket does not have a seat reservation, you can make one on the LNER App or with our online reservation tool.

If the journey you’re looking for doesn’t have any availability then we’re sorry, there are no reservable seats left on that train. Please consider travelling at a quieter time so you can secure one for a more comfortable journey.
