See Newcastle like never before!

LNER, the new operator of the East Coast mainline, is inviting visitors of the Great Exhibition of the North to see Newcastle like never before – dangled on a rope 35 metres up over the Quayside! The LNER Abseil Line, which is being hung from a giant crane, is giving people unique views of the city and the River Tyne from now until the exhibition closes.

FREE to the public, the abseil line will be open for four weekends (Friday – Sunday) until 9 September and is expected to give more than1,000 visitors an adrenaline-fuelled view of the city. If you’re keen to give it a go, visit the LNER Booking Terminus, located by the Quayside beach, on the day to book your place.

Aneela Awan, Commercial Manager at LNER, said:

“We wanted to give visitors of the Great Exhibition of the North the opportunity to see as much of Newcastle as possible - and in a slightly unique way. Having experienced it for myself, I’d urge as many people to come down to the Quayside and give it a go. There is certainly a moment of fear but you quickly get distracted by the fantastic views over the Tyne.”

While at the LNER Booking Terminus, visitors can hear about the new Azuma trains arriving in 2019, experience the railway in virtual reality and pick up some 30% discount vouchers for future travel.

The new experience comes as part of LNER’s support for the Great Exhibition of the North, which has also seen them bring an Azuma train to the streets of Newcastle, run a schools competition looking at what the future of the railway looks like, and put on an Innovation exhibit at the Discovery museum.
