Making The Most Of Summer With LNER
06/08/2026
LNER is helping families make the most of the last weeks of summer with a host of family-focused activities and entertainment to keep younger travellers engaged and inspired.
The new, enhanced Family Single enables up to two adults and four children to explore more than sixty new destinations as LNER links up with Northern trains to expand the offer.
Three new episodes of the popular LNER Kids Club podcast will help keep younger customers entertained during their journey. Available by scanning the QR code on seatbacks onboard services and through all major podcast platforms, the series features stories, interviews with colleagues from LNER and Network Rail, games and fun facts designed especially for children. The latest episodes focus on stations, railway entrepreneurs and engineers.
As the National Year of Reading continues, LNER has partnered with fellow train operators and The Reading Agency to distribute tens of thousands of free Summer Reading Challenge activity packs to families. Already proving incredibly popular with younger customers, each one contains a copy of Storytime Magazine, a sticker booklet, activity sheet, certificate and other fun resources to inspire children to read more
LNER is also partnering with the prestigious Edinburgh International Book Festival to deliver a train-themed Kids Zone featuring free activities every day of the festival. Limited Summer Reading Challenge packs will also be shared at the festival alongside complimentary copies of acclaimed author Helen Rutter's 'The Piano at the Station'. The festival takes place across the city and will run from Saturday 15 August until Sunday 30 August 2026. The LNER Kids Zone can be found at Edinburgh Futures Institute.

Families travelling through London King's Cross, York or Edinburgh Waverley Stations can also visit station Travel Centres, where much sought after official LNER toys will be available to buy for a limited period. Electric and wooden Azuma train sets, which are not available anywhere else, will be on sale.
