LNER Recognised with Prestigious Gold Award for Supporting Armed Forces Personnel
15/07/2026

LNER has been granted Gold Award status in the 2026 Defence Employee Recognition Scheme for its continued support of armed forces personnel and their families.
For many years, LNER has been a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant which is a commitment to supporting current and former armed forces personnel and their families when seeking new employment in civilian life.
The Defence Employee Recognition Scheme encourages employers to show their support and inspire others to do the same. Bronze, Silver and Gold awards are presented to employers that demonstrate this and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.
For LNER to be recognised with a gold award, it has been identified as an ‘exemplar within its sector’, advocating for the Armed Forces Covenant. It also ‘actively encourages positive workforce environment for Active Reservists’.

LNER has continually showed its commitment to armed forces personnel through recruitment and wider support. Its colleague network, Reveille, provides current and former members of the armed forces, and their families, who work for the business an opportunity to support each other and have a space where they can share their experiences.
As well as this, LNER veteran colleagues joined others from the rail industry in the National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph, the first time the sector has been officially represented. LNER also welcomed around 100 Coldstream Guards onboard as they travelled on a return journey from London King’s Cross to Berwick-upon-Tweed for a special celebration marking 375 years of the regiment.

Charlie Wilkinson and Katie Adamson, co-chairs of the LNER ‘Reveille’ network, said: “This is a wonderful moment for us as we are presented with a gold award, recognising the hard work that continues in supporting members of the armed forces community.
“The Reveille network is a special group of people, designed to support, connect, and empower members of the military community. We strive to foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie, making sure that no one feels alone in their journey. We are so proud to receive such a prestigious award, and we will continue supporting our colleagues."
James Downey, Finance Director and Executive sponsor of the LNER veterans' network ‘Reveille’, said: “Being recognised in this way is testament to the outstanding work that our colleagues deliver in supporting members of the armed forces community. At LNER, our people are at the heart of everything we do, and it is amazing to see the caring environment that is fostered across our company for current and former service personnel.”
