LNER Celebrates Wins At National Rail Awards

Often described as the ‘Railway Oscars’ - LNER won the Outstanding Teamwork Award for its industry-leading ‘Navigator’ colleague app. Newark Northgate clinched the coveted Medium Station of the Year Award, while Penny Bond was recognised for her Outstanding Personal Contribution.

Colleagues from the LNER Digital and Innovation Team, led by Chief Digital and Innovation Officer Danny Gonzalez, were praised for their outstanding teamwork, winning an award alongside software developers Cranmore for the launch of ‘Navigator’. The app, for colleagues at LNER, provides a wealth of information and has evolved from being used to simply booking on and off shifts to providing live train information, reservation views by coach and seat, as well as a directory for station and colleague contacts.

In the Accessibility Achievement of the Year category, LNER was highly commended for its Predictive Passenger Assistance programme, which predicts requests by station and hour to help with staffing. Judges also highly commended LNER for being a Great Place to Work.

Speaking of her award for Outstanding Personal Contribution, Penny Bond, Senior Internal Communications Manager at LNER, said:

It was an honour to be nominated alongside so many talented colleagues across LNER and the rail industry. This award is a win for the work achieved on the Be Kind campaign. The campaign and the badges are a reminder that everyone in the industry, who may be someone's mum, dad, daughter, son or partner, is a real person with real feelings. Railway colleagues work hard every day to keep the railway and the people on it safe and they themselves should be able to come to work free from abuse.
