Dr Amir Khan reflects on the journeys that have changed his outlook on life on Routes with Jenni Falconer

From his first visit to Pakistan as a child and unforgettable wildlife encounters in Canada, to working in remote medical clinics in Malawi.

Speaking to Jenni, Amir recalls travelling to Pakistan for the first time at just five years old to meet relatives he'd never met before.

"I remember being really excited. We got off the plane and there were about 50 of our relatives waiting for us with garlands of flowers. I'd never met any of them, but they were the most excited people ever."

The conversation also explores Amir's work in Malawi, where volunteering in remote healthcare clinics left a lasting impression.

"The less people have, the more they want to give. They had nothing, but they made us food because they knew we were coming, invited us into their homes and made us feel so welcome. It really puts things into perspective."
