      • Peterborough Cathedral spotlight

        Peterborough Cathedral

Some of history’s major bad guys feature in the story of Peterborough Cathedral - Henry VIII, Oliver Cromwell and the rampaging Vikings. Cromwell and his army gave the cathedral a hard time in the Civil War – smashing stained glass was a favoured technique. It still looks magnificent though – no wonder they say it’s one of the ‘finest Norman cathedrals in England’.

        Longthorpe Tower

Fascinating wall paintings are the order of the day at Longthorpe Tower. Kings jostle with musicians, saints with monsters, on the walls of this medieval tower. Astonishingly they were rediscovered by the Home Guard who were stationed there during WWII. Sounds like an episode of Dad’s Army.
