Transformational December 2025 timetable

Get ready for more trains, more seats, and faster journeys.

You'll now have even more freedom to travel when you want and make the most of your journey with LNER.

What our new timetable will deliver for you:

  • One extra LNER train every hour between London and Newcastle (from five to six trains per hour). This means there will be 37 additional LNER trains each weekday and more at the weekend too.

  • Faster journey times between Edinburgh and London with some journeys taking just 4 hours.

  • Significant improvements in connectivity, particularly between Yorkshire and the North East and London, with over 16,000 additional seats per day.

It will also support our communities by:

  • Supporting a £108 million boost to the economy – on top of the £3.11 billion that investment and spending on LNER services already creates.

  • Creating hundreds of new jobs across the East Coast. This will deliver a financial benefit of £60m to the industry allowing for continued investment into the railway.

  • The timetable also has an incredible environmental benefit - by choosing LNER, 170,000 tonnes of carbon emissions will be saved that would otherwise have been emitted by people travelling by plane or car.
