70min Flex (Semi-flexible) tickets

A new ticket type that makes travelling by train a little simpler.

As part of our Simpler Fares pilot, we have introduced a new, widely available Semi-Flexible fare that gives customers the freedom to either travel as booked, or to start the journey up to 70 minutes earlier or later.

From Summer 2025, we've expanded the pilot bringing in more stations in the London area, as well as extending the validity of the new 70min Flex tickets to services of other operators that provide vital connecting services to and from these stations. This includes Northern, TransPennine Express, CrossCountry, ScotRail, Govia Thameslink and Transport for London.

On these routes, Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak tickets will no longer be available, but you'll still be able to access Advance and Anytime tickets. The 70min Flex may not always be shown alongside the Advance

Like Fixed Advance tickets, you also get a guaranteed seat on your booked train with a 70min Flex. If your plans change, it’s easy to swap your ticket in ‘My Account’ on the LNER website or the LNER App. You’ll be shown all other valid trains and can swap at the click of a button. If you’re not online, board any valid train and find an available seat.

You will be able to purchase and utilise the Semi-Flexible 70min Flex fare (where available) for a journey between one of the pilot route stations in the North and one of the pilot route stations around London.

For the full list, view our route map.

What are the advantages?

  • The 70min Flex comes with a guaranteed seat reservation on the chosen LNER train(s) during booking.

  • These tickets offer the freedom to start the journey up to 70 minutes earlier or later than booked, travelling with LNER for the main leg of the journey.

  • LNER direct customers can swap their booked journey in ‘My Account’ at LNER.co.uk or on the LNER App
