LNER Leading The Rail Industry In Gender Equity
25/07/2025

LNER has been recognised by Women in Transport as leading the rail sector in gender equity. The not-for-profit organisation published their second national report on gender equity which describes LNER as a consistent leader.
Women in Transport surveyed over 100 organisations across the transport industry on areas such as female workforce representation, female leaders, gender pay gap, career development, flexible working and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
LNER achieved a remarkable score of 71.5, heads and shoulders above the industry average of 52. The report applauded LNER on female leadership representation and the career development opportunities available for women and praised the train operator's exceptional commitment to gender equity through its policies and practices.
The results allow Women in Transport to track progress in comparison to the previous 2023 survey, which also saw LNER recognised as the lead train operator in the sector.
Tracey Barber, Senior Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Business Partner at LNER, said: “We’re thrilled to be recognised by Women in Transport and to have retained the top spot in the rail sector for the second year running. There’s a wide range of opportunities for women within LNER, and in the wider rail industry and we want to ensure women feel encouraged and included. From our support of the ‘Never Mind the Gap’ initiative which provides training and placement opportunities for women, to becoming a period positive workplace and increasing the number of female train drivers, we’re always looking to remove barriers and smash glass ceilings.”
