Returning to university
Getting ready to head back to university or are you staying at home longer?
Whether you need to buy a ticket for your staggered return or change your ticket due to the latest government guidance, our guide is here to help you.
Change of journey and refunds
On Monday 22 February, the UK government announced that some university courses in England would begin to return to face-to-face learning from Monday 8 March, and that a further review would take place by the end of the Easter holidays for all other courses. Similarly in Scotland, between now and the end of April, some students will resume face-to-face learning.
For students not currently studying in person, there will be a staggered return to university in line with Government guidance. For those students, we're offering fee-free changes to your train tickets to allow for travel at a later date. We recommend students travelling on LNER trains to go on Mondays and Wednesdays when our trains are quieter and less affected by engineering works.
If you booked a ticket on or before 22 February 2021, you can change your journey without a £10 admin fee or receive an eVoucher, valid for 12 months, to go towards your journey at a later date.
If you are travelling back to university, please follow our travel tips to keep you, other passengers and our colleagues safe.
P.S. Remember to give yourself plenty of time when you arrive at the station to get to your platform, especially if you're bringing luggage.
