Get away on the day and save

You can now buy Advance tickets up to two hours before your train departs. So you can get onboard, on the day, for less - and still get all the benefits.

If you’re a last-minute traveller who likes to bag the best value fares, then we’ve got some awesome news for you....

You can now book LNER Advance tickets up to two hours before your train starts its journey, and still get all the benefits. You can save on average 25%* with Advance tickets.

So you can get onboard, on the day, for less. Previously, our Advance tickets were only available to buy up to 23.59 on the day before travel.

They’re the cheapest for on the day travel for most journeys, subject to availability. Just check online (at least two hours before you travel) and see if Advance tickets are available. You get an automatic seat reservation and you can purchase them online, at the travel centre, or on our ticket vending machines at stations. Easy.

Benefits to you

  • It’s an extension of our great value Advance tickets (our cheapest fare product) which are now available on the day of travel instead of up until 23:59 the day before.
  • Advance tickets are now available on the day and will be cheaper than walk-up fare options such as the Off-Peak or Anytime within certain limits (subject to availability)
  • You'll receive a specific seat reservation
  • Available in both First Class and Standard
  • Single ticket, so you can mix and match

When are Advance train tickets available?

Our tickets will always be cheaper the further in advance you book them. The earlier you book, the cheaper the tickets and the more options you’ll have (with the best availability starting from 24 weeks ahead of travel).

But even if you need to buy your tickets on the day you're travelling, we’ll still make sure you get the best price available. Advance tickets will be available to purchase online, at Travel centres, and at ticket vending machines (TVMs) up until two hours before the train leaves its origin station/starts its entire journey. That’s just enough time for us to make sure you get a reserved seat.

LNER Advance tickets are issued with a compulsory seat reservation and tickets are non-refundable. Customers must travel on their specified service(s). Please read the terms and conditions.
