A few drinks…

Whether you’re after craft beer or cocktails, York has some great drinking spots for a quiet pint or an all-night party. We love…

  • The Hop is the place to go for craft beer. Hipsters mingle with real-ale drinkers sampling the finest Ossett Brewery bevvies. Blending traditional Victorian pub vibes with contemporary chic, it’s a great place to start a night out… Find The Hop on Fossgate
  • Evil Eye is a York institution. Famed for its amazing cocktails, grunge music and vibrant décor - which pays lip-service to Brazil and Haiti. Watch as the expert mixologists whip up your mojito… Find Evil Eye on Stonegate
  • Revolution is the place to party on Saturday night. DJs spin cool tunes as the folk of York don their best clobber and get a groove on. The drinks selection is mind-boggling…from Tanqueray gin to craft ale. Find Revolution on Coney Street

A bite to eat…

York is a foodie’s paradise – whatever floats your boat. We love…

  • Little Italy is the place to come for Italian. Fresh pasta is made on-site using the ‘best Italian ingredients’. Tuck into a bowl of steaming, piled-high spaghetti - Sardinian Ragu? – or a comforting Cannelloni stuffed with chicken and stuffing. Find Little Italy on Goodramgate
  • No8 has the bistro thing nailed. Relaxed, bohemian and with the focus on locally sourced grub, No8 is one of York’s best-kept secrets. On a summer’s night you can eat outdoors in the back garden, to the sound of clinking wine glasses and birdsong. We love the unfussy food – the house fishcake with chorizo is yum. Find No8 on Gillygate

A bit of culture…

York is perfect for taking in some culture. Here's some of our favourites:

  • City Screen is part of the trendy Picturehouse cinema group. It shows Hollywood classics like Roman Holiday alongside arty, foreign films and cool indie flicks. The latest blockbusters don’t get left out either. And the riverside bar is perfect for a post-movie drink. What’s on at City Screen?
  • Fibbers has played host to such iconic acts as Oasis and Nirvana – albeit in their early days. It’s been around since the mad-for-it mid-‘90s and is a York institution – even though it has recently shifted to a new site. Crooner Richard Hawley plays in September. Find Fibbers at Toft Green
  • Splash out on a box or take the cheap seats for a night of stirring emotion at the Grand Opera House York. Dramatic, passionate and not always easy to understand, the opera is the perfect highbrow night out. Find the Grand Opera House York at Cumberland Street

Something random…

Doesn’t come much more random than a ghost walk. York is one of our most haunted cities, some might say. Go on the lookout for the most famous supposed spirits with the Original Ghost Walk of York.

The ghost stories told en route will make your teeth itch.
