Musical delight for customers at Darlington Railway Station

22/08/18

Customers may hear something a little bit more musical between announcements next time they visit Darlington Train Station, following the installation of a piano on Platform 4.

The piano, donated by Darlington based removal company Ingram's, is for all passengers to enjoy whether they're professional tinklers or have never played before. We're hoping the piano will become a popular feature at the station while people wait for their train.

David Keech, Customer Experience Manager, said: “We're delighted to receive this fabulous piano, which no doubt has a lot of history behind it. We invite customers to Darlington to have a go next time they visit the station. The piano creates a fantastic atmosphere so our thanks go to Ingrams and also to the original owners for the kind donation.”

On Friday 17 August the piano, which dates back to the 1920s, was dusted off and fine tuned by regular passengers Gavin Atkins, Philip Stokes and guide dog Winter, who run their own piano-tuning business. Gavin said “We are thrilled to have been invited to the launch of the piano which has been fine tuned to the highest standard.”

Removal company Ingram's were also at the launch. “There were only two options, one to dispose of the piano or the other was to donate it to the local community. The station was an ideal choice and we are really happy to see the piano go to a good home”.
